Colourguard
on CBBC in August
The Academy teaches colourguard in new CBBC program - Skate Nation
In July a new series is starting on CBBC called Skate Nation, which see's groups of young people competing in skating routines each week to find the ultimate Skate Nation champions! Much like Dancing on Ice the groups learn different routines and one group gets voted off each week. And just like Dancing on Ice on of the Semi final challenges was for a group to learn to spin flags whilst dancing their routines on Skates...Cue Colourguard!!!!
The Academy were invited to the CBBC studios last Bank Holiday Monday to spend a few hours teaching 4 young people how to spin a flag and learn a short routine. The young performers varied in age, 2 girls of 10yrs, 1 boy of 13yrs and a young girl of 17yrs, and ready to learn to spin, on SKATES!!! Our 8 members were prep'd by the film crew and our senior instructor for the day, Lara Corcoran, led the session and introducing colourguard on camera. The members of TA performed a short routine of their own, and a basics routine for the young Skate Nation performers to learn. The young performers were really excited and did a great job, and even wanted to learn to throw the flags!!!!
It was a fantastic opportunity for The Academy to promote colourguard for a program which will be viewed by hundreds of thousands of young people throughout the UK. The program will show the in depth learning curve the young performers went through to learn the basics of colourguard skills, as well as what can be achieved by young members of colourguard groups that compete each year in this country. By promoting colourguard to such a valuable age range via TV we hope that many colourguard groups across the country will benefit by recruiting more young people into their teams.
The Academy would like to thank Alan Thompson for assisting us with this event
Remember to watch Skate Nation, on CBBC, Saturday morning, 9am - Starting in July. The Academy will appear early in August as they get to the semi finals
