WGUK crown their 2017 Champions

Saturday 1st April saw Winter Guard United Kingdom hold their 38th British Winter Guard Championships and this year in a new venue - the fabulous University Arena in Worcester.

In over 10 hours of enthralling competition and entertainment 33 performing units gave us 47 competitive performances in the culmination of their winters work.

Firstly we would like to give our special congratulations to the 2017 Champions:

Mayflower - Open Class
Mayflower - A Class
Alliance - Junior Class
Spice Cadets - Cadet Class

As so the day commenced with Open Class Preliminaries with Mayflower retaining the lead they have held all season. This was followed by another very close contest in both the A Class and Junior Championships which took place to determine the 4 A Class units and the 5 Class Junior units who would progress to their respective Finals.

This years Cadet Class Championships was one of the biggest in recent years as 12 units competed and the standard of Guards in this class, considering their young age, contiues to grow which gives a bright future for our activity. Anchormen Cadets took 3rd Place with Mayflower Cadets in 2nd and Spice Cadets taking their first Champions title.

And so to the three Finals events...

In the Junior Class Finals - Avengers came 5th, Anchormen 4th and Spice were in 3rd Place. There were two strong contenders for the top spot and the in end Mayflower came in 2nd with Alliance securing their first Junior Class title.

In the A Class Finals - Oracle were 4th, Southern Knights in 3rd with Northern Academy in 2nd and in 1st Place, with their third A Class title, Mayflower.

The Open Class Finals saw Avengers in 5th Place, Northern Academy in 4th, Southern Knights in 3rd with Kidsgrove Scouts coming in 2nd and so Mayflower winning their tenth Open Class Champions title.

WGUK would like to thanks ESO Solutions for once again being being the Champions Trophies sponsors for 2017 and also Absolute Embroidery for being the sponsor of the first WGUK Championships webcast - presented by UK Fan Network.

All the scores and recaps from the whole day can be found on our results page.
