WGUK crown their 2018 Champions

The British Winter Guard Championships took place on Saturday 31st March and saw Winter Guard United Kingdom hold their 39th annual event as we returned to the fabulous University Arena in Worcester.

Nearly 11 hours of thoroughly entertaining competition by 34 performing units gave us 50 fantastic performances in the culmination of all these performing units winters work.

We would like firstly congratulate the 2018 Champions:

Mayflower - World Class
Kidsgrove Scouts - Open Class
Mayflower - A Class
Mayflower - Junior Class
Anchormen Cadets - Cadet Class

The day commenced with the World Class and Open Class Preliminaries with Kidsgrove Scouts coming out on top in the Open Class. This was followed by yet another very close contest in both the A Class and Junior Championships which took place to determine the 4 A Class units and the 6 Junior Class units who would progress to their respective Finals.

This years Cadet Class Championships saw 9 units competing and for such a young age the standard of Guards in this class just seems to get better and better and continues to grow each year which really should give us a bright future for our activity. Mayflower Cadets took 3rd Place with Alliance Cadets in 2nd and Anchormen Cadets taking their fifth Cadet Champions title.

And so to the four Finals events...

In the Junior Class Finals - Thurrock Academy came 6th, Alliance came 5th, SPICE 4th and Commodores were in 3rd Place. Runners up this year were Southern Knights with Mayflower securing their first Junior Class title.

In the A Class Finals - SPICE were 4th, Southern Knights in 3rd with Northern Academy in 2nd and in 1st Place, with their fourth A Class title, Mayflower.

The Open Class Finals saw Avengers in 5th Place, Oracle in 4th, Northern Academy in 3rd with Southern Knights coming in 2nd and so Kidsgrove Scouts winning their third Open Class Champions title.

And finally in the World Class Mayflower were crowned Champions in this class for the fourth time

WGUK would like to once again thank ESO Personalise for sponsoring the 2018 Champions Trophies and also thank Absolute Embroidery for being the sponsor of the second WGUK Championships webcast - presented by UK Fan Network.

All the scores and recaps from the whole day can be found on our results page.

And that all bought the 2018 season to a close. WGUK would like to pass on their thanks to all the performers, staff, supporters, in fact anyone that has in anyway been involved with the past season for, once again, providing us with a winter of exciting and quality performances. And of course...

... the 2019 season is not that far off and any new units interested in being part of WGUK next winter should pre-register now.
