WGUK crown their five 2019 Champions

The Winter Guard United Kingdom 40th British Winter Guard Championships took place on Saturday 30th March as we returned to the fabulous University of Worcester Arena for the third time.

Nearly 11 hours of thoroughly entertaining competition by 31 performing units gave us 45 wonderful performances in the culmination of all these performing units last 6 months or so endeavours.

We would like firstly congratulate the 2019 Champions:

Mayflower - World Class
Northern Academy - Open Class
Northern Academy - A Class
Mayflower - Junior Class
Avenger Cadets - Cadet Class

As usual the day commenced with the World Class and Open Class Preliminaries with Northern Academy coming out on top in the Open Class. This was followed by a close contest in both the A Class and Junior Championships which took place to determine the 4 A Class units and the 5 Junior Class units who would progress to their respective Finals. The remaining units would not know their scores or positions until the evening results ceremony.

Our Cadet Class Championships this year saw 8 units competing and once again the standard from these young performers was outstanding and in the medal positions were: Anchormen Cadets who took 3rd Place with Mayflower Cadets in 2nd and Avenger Cadets winning their first Cadet Champions title.

Following this we then moved into the four Finals events...

In the Junior Class Finals the medallists were - Avengers in 3rd Place. Runners up this year were Anchormen with Mayflower securing their second Junior Class title.

In the A Class Finals the medal positions went to - Southern Knights in 3rd with Mayflower in 2nd and in 1st Place, with their second A Class title, Northern Academy.

The Open Class Finals saw Winter Festival in 4th, Southern Knights in 3rd with Oracle coming in 2nd and so Northern Academy winning their fifth Open Class Champions title.

And finally in the World Class Mayflower were crowned Champions in this class for the fifth time.

This years Results Ceremony bought all Junior, A, Open & World Class units back onto the arena so they could all celebrate our 40th Championships together and it was a fantastic spectacle seeing all these performers together.

WGUK would like to once again thank ESO Personalise for sponsoring the 2019 Champions Trophies and also thank Absolute Embroidery for being the sponsor of the WGUK Championships webcast - presented by UK Fan Network.

All the scores and recaps from the whole day can be found on our results page.

And so our 40th Championships bought the 2019 season to a close. WGUK would like to pass on their thanks to all the performers, staff, supporters, in fact anyone that has in anyway been involved with the past season for, once again, providing us with a winter of exciting and quality performances. And remember...

... 2020 is not far away and now any new units or previous competing groups that are thinking its time to think about getting those silks and weapons back out of storage and are interested in being part of WGUK next season can pre-register now.
