For many years WGUK has had a system in place to enable automatic promotion during the season to the next class based on score achieved at shows in January and February. In addition, at the season end, units could be requested to move up a class for the following season if their score at Championships hit a certain level.
Having made no changes to the way the system worked for the past few years, and also no unit actually being promoted during the season since 2018, at the recent WGUK Board Meeting it was felt it would be a good time to revisit the criteria and update accordingly.
We are pleased to now announce the following details about the Promotion System for the 2026 season:
– the Promotion System is for Cadet, Junior, A and Open Class. There is no Promotion System for units performing in Kids Class
– whilst there will an advisory score of 75 for the January contest there will no Promotions in the month of January
– at the next 4 contests the score to be achieved to be promoted will be:- Liverpool – 77, Wivenhoe – 78, Ireland – 79 and Worcester St John – 81
– if the Promotion Score is achieved then at least 3 of 5 judges scores must have scored at or above the promotion score in their Caption. If only 2 or less Judges have scored at or the above Promotion score then the unit is not Promoted.
– there will be no Promotions at the last two contests of the season (Burgess Hill & Leeds)
– at the next contest attended after promotion any unit promoted will receive a Promotion Certificate and will be scheduled to perform last in their new class
– at the WGUK Championships, any unit promoted during the season will receive a Gold Promotion Medal
– any unit scoring 90+ at the WGUK Championships (with a minimum of 3 out of the 5 judges scoring at or above the Promotion score) will be promoted to the next class for the 2027 season. Any Guard achieving 85+ (but below 90 and with a minimum of 3 out of the 5 judges scoring at or above the advisory score) will also be advised that moving up to the next class for 2027 should be considered but would not be mandatory
