Kids Class was introduced to WGUK in 2020 with its main purpose to help introduce new organisations into the world of Winter Guard. Whilst it is clear this aim has not been achieved, the Class has been very successful in helping existing organisations bring in new young members and so at the recent WGUK Board Meeting the question “What is Kids Class?” was discussed and it was identified that the Class had just become an extension of the existing Cadet Class so it was a clear it needed a “re-boot”.

We are pleased and excited to now announce Kids Class will have a complete change in direction and will be totally aimed at introducing new young members to our wonderful activity and remove the competitive side of the class (if a unit wishes to compete then the Cadet Class is the place to be). Therefore, for the 2026 Kids Class season:

– age will be based at Key Stage 1 “4 to 8 years old”. No member can be over the age of 8 (i.e. has not reached their 9th Birthday) as at the 30.04.26 (School Years 1 & 2)

– a new simplified Judging System will be introduced based on just three captions (effect, design, equipment/body)

– no scores will be announced and reward will based upon a Bronze, Silver & Gold Awards

– as no scores there will be no Champion but we will announce a “Best in Show” at Championships

– the first show in Stoke is NOT mandatory plus to qualify to attend the WGUK Championships units only have to attend 2 shows during the season and these can be at ANYTIME during the season
