On Saturday 3rd June over 50 performers from UK, Ireland and USA travelled to Newcastle Under Lyme (just outside Stoke On Trent) to attend the WGUK Spintastic Training Event.
Sessions were run from 10.30am until 4pm and covered all three main elements of colour guard – movement, flags and weapons – and were headed by two guest clinicians from the USA, Anthony Garcia and John Kreglar (https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=642557861247102), who ran Foundation and Advanced classes in tandem so all could be involved. The day ended with “show and tell performances” and some very tired but happy participants 🙂
Here is some of what was said about the event…
Director of an organisation
“6 months ago half of them hadn’t even heard of Colourguard, so it was great for them to see so many other people enjoying the same activity…..and to try new things. It was brilliant for me to have supportive conversations with so many people from the guard community too.”
Comment on Facebook
“A great day was had by all, looking forward to next year’s weekend event”
Parents of two participants –
“My daughter appears to have had the time of her life yesterday. She’s literally not stopped talking about it since we got home! She says the guys were great teaching…..loved the Rifle stuff in particular and the movement!”
“Just wanted to say a quick thank you to everyone who organised today. My daughter had a great day. Although obviously the youngest there, she was desperate to come along and do her best. Thanks to everyone for making her feel welcome.”
Comments by participants on the day
“We learnt new techniques”; “It was very hard”; Good opportunity to come and give new things a go”; “We could come again”
Plans are already being made for the next Spintastic – maybe even a two day event in 2024!! Watch this space…
